Organic social media. It makes a lot of cringes, but it really shouldn’t. It’s not a nice to have, but a must have and the problem is here over and over again can usually be solved by following this easy 5-point strategy.

Define your target audience:

Identify who you want to reach on social media and why they should care. If you’re a non-profit, it could be donors, volunteers, or community members. If you’re a B2B service-based company, maybe it’s potential partners, referrers, and decision-makers. Whoever they are, define them and make them human.

Choose your platforms:

Determine which social media platforms your target audience is most active on and where you can best reach them. Examples include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn. If they’re not on a specific platform, neither should you.

Create engaging content:

Develop content that resonates with your target audience and encourages them to engage with your organization. This could include sharing success stories, behind-the-scenes glimpses, and calls to action to get them to convert.

What we don’t want to be is boring or redundant. Test different formats types of content from video to audio, carousels to reels. Once you look at the data (step 5), and see what is being consumed, keep doing that.

Establish a posting schedule:

Consistently post on social media to maintain engagement with your audience. Use a content calendar to plan out your posts and ensure you have a variety of content types (e.g., photos, videos, infographics).

A schedule doesn’t have be planned out months in advanced, but going into the new week, you should have an idea of what you’re posting for the following days.

Monitor and analyze performance:

Keep track of how your social media strategy is performing by monitoring metrics like engagement, reach, and clicks. Use this data to refine your strategy over time and optimize for better results.
