Next month I will be leading a lecture to the executive MBA program at Drexel University's LeBow College of Business on personal branding and why itβs crucial to growth.
While Iβve spoken in the past about why your personal brand is essential to career growth, hereβs a different take I took on LinkedIn this week via the Movetic page.
These are the 5 things MBA students need to know about personal branding.
β‘οΈ Forget Perfection: Striving for a flawless image is a waste of time. People connect with real, imperfect humans. Embrace your flaws and let your authenticity shine.
β‘οΈ Consistency is Overrated: While consistency is important, donβt let it stifle your creativity. Show different facets of your personality and expertise to keep your audience intrigued. Just make sure you arenβt too shocking.
β‘οΈ Controversy Sells: Donβt shy away from taking a stand or sharing bold opinions. Controversy can spark conversations and set you apart from the crowd.
β‘οΈ Ditch the Elevator Pitch: Itβs a fast world out there, traditional elevator pitches are dead. Instead, focus on storytelling and creating emotional connections. But it might also help to have a conversion point (business card, Blinq, LinkedIn QR code)
β‘οΈ Adapt or Die: The branding landscape is ruthless. If youβre not constantly evolving and adapting to new trends, your brand will become obsolete.
Some of these might be against the grain of what youβve heard, but isnβt that the point? To be a bright light amongst the dull fog? To be a ZAG when everyone else is a ZIG? To be an original amongst a sea of sameness?
